When it comes to magic, secrets rule. For Mia and Derek, those secrets will destroy them.
Derek never meant to hide his powers. But after seventeen years of lies, he can’t tell Mia now. Even when the woman with red eyes tries to kill him.
Mia has secrets too. Her terrifying stalker and the glowing knife frighten her, but the new boy in school—one who knows too much about magic—pushes her to her limit.
They should rely on each other, as they always have, but with so many secrets, is there any trust left? The twins are spiraling down dark paths that might break them apart forever if their secrets haven’t already.

It’s been a long journey. But I’m finally finding answers to why my body does what it does.
To everyone out there still searching, don’t give up. Keep advocating for yourself. It’s not all in your head. I hope that one day you find the representation that gives you an answer too.

HAPPY PRIDE FROM MIA AND XUE!!!
Nothing like my two idiot lesbians to make my day a little brighter, and @chikasaurus_art captured their joy and love so much.
Mia’s journey of self acceptance and understanding of her sexuality is such an important theme in the Dreams and Secrets Series, and it mirrors my own confused and complicated relationship with myself. She finds peace and happiness when she accepts this part of herself and Xue is there for the ride. This is one of my favorite ships and I will go down with it.
The world is complicated right now. But I hope all of my fellow queer folks, however you identify, are able to find a little bit of joy this pride. Love is love, and you are beautiful my friends!
(Mia and Xue are standing in front of a sculpture from Denver’s 2024 Pride festival. The sculpture is by Lonnie Hanzon and Terry Koepsel Hanzon.)

There have been many books that I have been excited for in my life. Very few top this.
Keilani and I met when we were in seventh grade, we were in a couple of the same classes and the same homeroom. It was our first year in junior high, and we were awkward almost teenagers, both youngest siblings, both giant nerds.
That’s right. I’m a nerd. No shame.
Back then, I was even more insecure than I am now and I didn’t see a point in finishing anything writing wise because I didn’t think I could. But when I met Keilani, she was just so into having fun with writing that it gave me confidence. We obsessed over anime together, I tried to be an artist like her and failed, and we wrote fanfiction together. She wrote her hilarious Kirby fanfiction and I wrote my depressing Gakuen Alice fanfiction. I was always jealous of her ability to craft a fun and beautiful story. She made it look so easy, and I aspired to be like her. I don’t think would be the author I am today without knowing her.
I have been hoping that she would publish one of her books at some point. Even though we’ve bounced in and out of each other’s lives because of distance and school, we have always managed to remain friends. Getting this book in the mail today has made this entire year so much better. I can’t wait to read it.
Keilani, I love you so much, and I cannot be prouder and happier. I’m so excited for this and all your future books 💜
